Easy to grow mustard leaves

This is a fabulous plant that stays reasonably small over autumn and winter before it suddenly grows quite large in spring. It’s great looking! Best used as a cut and come again leaf it has a really punchy, mustardy flavour. Add baby leaves to salads or treat larger leaves like spinach and wilt them down. If it’s mild you’ll get leaves right through from November to late Spring (and beyond!) Plant approx 30cm apart. There is a growing guide included with the plants.

Number of plants: 10 plug plants

Variety: Giant Red (organic*)

In the kitchen: Cut mustard leaves young for a baby leaf salad or leave to mature to use in stir fries and stews.

Delivery Info: Available to order now for delivery between September and mid/late October. Please see FAQs for up-to-date delivery info. Planting/Growing Advice: Plant in autumn in raised beds, traditional veg patches or in pots and planters. They will grow quite quickly while the weather is relatively warm in autumn, and then will slow down in the colder months. They are frost tolerant and can be grown outside, but will grow faster in a greenhouse/polytunnel or under horticultural fleece/cloche. When to harvest: You can start picking the outer leaves a month or so after planting. Leave a few baby leaves in the centre of the plant when harvesting and it will keep producing leaves for several months. *Transplants suitable for organic growing.
