How to Plant Oregano

  • Oregano is surprisingly easy-going, so as long as it has a good dose of sunshine each day it will grow very well. They’ll even tolerate some light shade.
  • Plant 30cm apart
  • They will do well in the ground or in pots.

How to Grow Oregano

  • Keep the plants watered during dry spells
  • The plants will produce lots of leaves in early spring, followed by beautiful display of small flowers in summer. You can cut them back just before flowering for another flurry of leaves, or allow them to flower and cut them back when the flowers start to form seed heads. Oregano will self-seed vigorously so don’t allow seeds to form if you want to keep them under control!
  • At the end of the autumn they will naturally die back – this is a good time to remove all the woody old growth – simply cut it back to just above ground level. New leaves will come through in early spring.

How to Harvest Oregano

  • Harvest sprigs of leaves as you want to use them – delicious with tomatoes!
  • The flowers are very good for cutting
