How to Plant Sage
- Sage will do well in pots or in the ground, but does need well drained soil that will not become waterlogged during wet spells.
- Best grown in full sun.
- Plant 80cm-100cm apart
How to Grow Sage
- Water well at planting time, but thereafter, try not to overwater – a light watering from time to time will be fine once plants are established.
- Plants will keep growing through the winter months.
- Try not to let them get waterlogged.
- Sage tends to get quite woody after 3 or 4 years and usually needs replacing.
- A little trim at the end of the summer will keep your sage plant nice and bushy.
How to Harvest Sage
- Harvest sage leaves as you want to use them, throughout the year, by snipping off at the stem.
- The younger leaves tend to have better flavour.
Is Sage good for Companion Planting?
Try growing sage alongside rosemary, as the two tend to boost each others growth and like the same conditions.
