This Italian kale has beautiful dark green leaves and looks really striking in the vegetable patch when it’s fully grown. In fact, many people choose to plant it in borders for exactly that reason. It’s easy to grow (easier than many other brassicas) and will provide you with leaves for several months, right into spring. You’ll find it grows slowly over the coldest months, but you should be able to enjoy a crop from late November onwards, depending on the weather. You get really lovely tones of colour on this kale plant as it grows, making it a very attractive addition to your veg patch, and of course it’s uber healthy too and easy to grow. It is a great grower for autumn/winter, and will provide you with lots of lovely leaves right through to spring. It will tolerate frosts and even snow, although its growth will slow down in such cold temperatures. On milder autumn and winter days it’ll keep on growing. Broccoli – Purple Sprouting (Autumn)

This delicious variety of purple sprouting broccoli will produce fantastic coloured broccoli spears during late winter and early spring, possibly as early as February if mild. You can expect to then enjoy harvesting the broccoli spears for several weeks, usually into May when you can pull the plants up to replace with a spring planting. This is a green sprouting variety that will produce successive spears for you to harvest. You can either harvest them whilst small and tender, or wait until they form a larger head. Planted in autumn you may get the first few spears before Christmas if it is mild enough, otherwise, it’ll be a spring crop that will hopefully see you through until planting time in May. Chinese Mustard – Green In Snow (Autumn)

These are a useful winter leaf to grow, as they are brilliantly frost-hardy (hence the name – Green In Snow!) and provide a great source of baby leaf for salads. While the leaves are still young, the flavour is quite mild, getting hotter as they grow and mature.
