Argh, there’s something wrong with my borlotti beans! I really really hope it’s not going to spread and affect the whole crop, but I have a nasty feeling that I’m dealing with some kind of blight. I didn’t even know beans could get blight! But these blotches that have appeared on the pods do not look good, and I’ve been busy googling.
So far I have come up with the following potential diseases, but none seem to match the symptoms on my beloved borlotti beans:
- Bacterial Blight
- Halo Blight
- Anthracnose
- Leaf Spot
I really am none the wiser. If anybody knows what this might be, please do get in touch with the team at Rocket Gardens as I would love to know!
Here are the symptoms:
Little spots on the younger, upper leaves – yellow in the centre with a brown ring
Brown sunken spots on the more mature pods
Chlorosis (yellowing) on lots of the lower leaves
Little green spots on some of the younger pods
I hope that I’ll still be able to harvest the beans – we’ll see how they go. If the disease doesn’t spread too much I may be able to salvage some of the pods at the end of the season. Fingers are crossed.
