Frills Mustard is a great addition to summer salads. If you’re growing it you may find it grows quite quickly and tends to bolt, but you can prolong its life by harvesting it cleverly!
When you first plant your Frill’s Mustard, you can harvest leaves individually for 2-3 weeks until the plant gets a bit bigger. Once it is more fully formed (you may start to see buds appearing) then it’s easier to harvest with a pair of scissors. Simply cut across the plant leaving approximately 2-3 inches growth at the bottom, making sure that some new shoots and leaves are left on the plant.
Effectively you’re giving it a haircut and it’ll all grow back. If you cut it too short though, it will struggle to grow back, so just be careful to make sure some new growth remains on the plant!
