    Easy to grow, beautiful colour and fantastic flavour

    An extremely healthy and tasty vegetable that is so much more flavoursome when harvested and eaten fresh from your own garden. This variety is great to plant in spring/summer for a harvest between February and May, when there’s not much else to harvest! Growing from our plug plants is very easy – just pop them in your veg plot when your plants arrive and keep them well watered – a complete growing guide is provided with every plant delivery.

    Variety: Early (organic*)

    In the kitchen: Packed full of flavour when lightly steamed, stir-fried or boiled in just a few minutes so that the florets become tender. Drizzle with melted butter and lemon juice to make a delicious side dish.

    Planting advice: Plant 40cm apart. Protect from slugs and cover with net to guard against butterflies and pigeons.

    Harvesting: Harvest once the broccoli florets start to form. For summer sprouting varieties, this should be late summer through to autumn. For early sprouting varieties, harvest in late winter to spring. Harvest regularly for a longer crop.

  • Dwarf French Bean – Yin Yang

    A brilliant looking bean for drying and storing

    These are really special to grow. They will produce several green bean pods which you can harvest in the summer, but it is much more fun to wait until the pods mature towards the end of the summer and open them up to reveal these beautiful orca-like beans. Dry them out and store them in a jar and you can add to stews and soups through the winter.

    Variety: Yin Yang (organic*)

    In the kitchen: Best left to mature and turn yellow on the plant, then dry out and store in an airtight jar for winter casseroles and soups. You can use the beans like runner beans as well by harvesting while they are still green.

    Planting Advice: Plant plugs in full sunshine and keep well watered.

    Harvesting: You can expect to harvest beans from mid to late summer. If you want to dry and store the beans, allow them to reach maturity on the plants before harvesting in early autumn – dry out thoroughly before storing in airtight jars.

    This variety produces small-to- medium sized bulbs to harvest in late summer. The feathery foliage looks lovely in the veg patch, and is useful as a filler for cut flowers too. Bulb fennel is very easy-going – just pop it in the ground in fertile soil, keep it well watered and it should do well.

    With pale, mottled light green skin, these courgettes tend to start cropping a little earlier in the season (if the weather is good, of course!) It is a bush variety so will not take up too much space.

    In the kitchen: A wonderfully versatile vegetable, it can be used in stir-fries, soups, casseroles, salads, pasta dishes, pickled, the list goes on. You can even eat its beautiful flower, try stuffing it with herbs and cheese and frying it briefly.

    Planting Advice: These plugs will need to be planted at least 60cm apart. They need a lot of sunshine and water.

    Harvesting: Harvest as soon as the fruits are the right size. They should start to produce fruits 2-3 weeks after the first flowers form in early summer, as long as it is warm enough and pollination is good.

    Planting Advice: Plant plugs relatively closely together and provide supports for the peas to climb – chicken wire propped up between two bamboo stakes or twiggy pea sticks
