With a change of season in sight, you’ll probably find that many of your winter leaves start to produce broccoli-like florets now, and that these will eventually open into small yellow flowers.
Here are the plants to check:
- Kale (spring/summer planted)
- Mizuna
- Frills Mustard, Giant Red Mustard
- Land Cress
- Pak Choi & Tatsoi
You can actually cook the florets, so don’t discard the plants just yet – they’re quite tasty tossed into a stir-fry. But we would recommend harvesting often and getting as much from them as you can in the coming weeks. Once they’re in full flowering mode, you can leave them to it for a week or so and let the bees enjoy them before pulling them up before they seed.
