Get Started with Growing Your Own
When you’re new to growing your own vegetables it can feel a little overwhelming, but it can all be made simpler by working out the basics and using plug plants to get your plot on the go. You don’t need to have a huge amount of space, and you may find it easiest to start with just a small plot.

Growing in Containers
A medley of pots and containers will be enough when you’re starting out. You’ll need to fill them with potting or multipurpose compost, make sure they have drainage holes (so that they don’t get waterlogged) and find a good spot for them in your garden.

Growing in Raised Beds
If you have space for a couple of raised beds, this is a great starting point for your kitchen garden. It gives you space to grow a few different things, and it’s easy enough to build extra beds if and when you want to grow more in the future.

Plug Plants Make it Easy
Using plug plants means that you can spend the early part of spring (eg, April) preparing your plot, and then simply plant the plugs once the weather warms up (eg, May/June) to create an almost instant vegetable garden. You won’t need to worry about sowing seeds and getting timings right.
