Keeping rabbits off your crops

If you have a problem with rabbits in the veg plot, then you may be relieved to read that you don’t need to bury a deep rabbit-proof fence into the ground – there is another, less bothersome way…

First, put a low fence around your veg plot or raised beds – you can do this using chicken wire and bamboo stakes. It only needs to be 40-50cm high. Just weave the bamboo into the chicken wire to make posts and prod them into the ground (as pictured).

Second, cover your crops with hoop tunnels and mesh netting (see below post). This step isn’t completely necessary – you may find the veggies are fine just a the low fence. It’s more of an extra precaution for those gardens where bunnies are a little more persistent.
