A fabulous array of different beets

Can be grown in: Raised beds, planters or large containers. Find out more about growing beetroot in our growing guide below.

In the kitchen: Can be steamed or are delicious eaten raw in salads. They are also great roasted with some honey.

Can be delivered from: late April to July

The right site

Beets are best grown in a sunny spot with well-drained, fertile soil.

Can be grown in....

Raised beds are ideal, but containers are fine too.

How far apart?

10cm apart.

Looking after your plants....

The key to beetroot growing is to avoid over watering. Other than that they are very easy-going.

Don't drown them!

They need water, but not too much. During dry spells, water well, once a week. Other than that, leave them to their own devices and they should be fine.

Be gentle

Take care not to damage roots when weeding.

Storage Tips

You can keep beetroots in a box of dry sand in a cool, dark place. Make sure they’re not touching each other and that you’ve twisted off the leaves before you store them.

Ways to cook

We cannot recommend enough roasted beetroot. They have such sweet flavour, and it makes a real change from potatoes and parsnips with a Sunday Roast.
