Beans are one of the easiest veg plants to grow at home and you don’t need to do much at all to get a really great crop. Here are a few top tips if you haven’t grown them before (or if you’ve had trouble growing them in the past!)
Give them plenty of water
Beans really do get thirsty, and the number one problem is not watering them enough. We’d recommend watering them well early in the morning and late in the evening during dry spells.
Dig the soil well
Before you plant your beans, make sure you’ve dug the soil over really well. Nice, light soil will make it easier for them to put down their roots.
Fertile soil is best
Be sure to add a generous helping of organic compost and a handful of worm cast fertiliser when planting so that your beans get all the nutrients they need.
Protect from wind
Beans are delicate plants that don’t stand up very well to wind. It’s best to find a nice sheltered spot for them so that they can really thrive.
