Mulched & Ready to Plant – Diary of a Rocket Gardener

If you read my post last week, you’ll know that I have received my plants and they are currently sitting in punnets of compost until I plant out in, hopefully, a couple of weeks. I decided it was too cold and didn’t want to take the risk of planting out – I’m so glad, as it has been horribly windy with more strong winds on the forecast this Saturday, and only about 3c degrees early in the mornings – far too cold for baby beans!

In the meantime, I’ve taken the opportunity to add extra mulch to my no-dig beds, and I think this will both help to keep weeds down this summer, and nourish the soil underneath it. I’ve simply laid about 6cm of compost over the top of what was already there – no digging, I’ll just let the worms do their work. The no-dig method has worked so well for me, and I’d really recommend giving it a go if you’re interested – far less work, far fewer weeds, less watering required and generally fewer slugs too.

I sent a photo to the team at Rocket Gardens, and they decided to use my veg patch for a little bit of filming the other day, so you’ll be able to get a good glimpse of it in one of their new instructional videos soon!
