Spring Cabbage

Great addition to your veg patch…

This is a dwarf variety that can be planted quite close together (25-30cm). When planted in Spring you can expect to harvest it from July through to September. You can harvest them as delicious, small, tender cabbages or a little later on once the heads have matured.

Variety: April

Number of plants: 10 (organic*)

Can be grown in: Raised beds or pots. Find out more about growing cabbages in our growing guide below.

In the kitchen: Enjoy it in stir-fries, steam it, boil it and all sorts. We rather like it cooked up in tasty bubble & squeak. With a poached egg on top. Mmm.

Can be delivered from: late April to July. Available to pre-order now. These plants will arrive bare-rooted with an approximate height of 10-15cm.

Ready to harvest: July – Sep

*Transplants suitable for organic growing.

The right site

Cabbages need a sunny site with deep, firm, moisture retentive soil.

Can be grown in....

Cabbages will prefer to be grown in raised beds or a well dug veg patch.

How far apart?

About 30cm apart.

Looking after your plants....

Cabbages are fairly hassle free. Follow these tips and you’ll do just fine.

Feed them

Make sure plants don’t dry out – regular watering is important during dry spells. Use a liquid feed once they’ve started to grow a little, as they need a little extra nitrogen.

Protect them

Keep weeds down and cover with a netting to keep birds away

Storage Tips

Harvest them as you want to eat them – they will store in the fridge for a few days, but are much better cooked fresh.

Ways to cook

Bubble and squeak is a fabulous cabbage dish, or you can simply stir fry with a little vegetable oil.
