    An easy to grow variety of celery
    This variety of celery forms crisp green stalks. It doesn’t need to be blanched as it grows – it is a ‘self-blanching’ variety. If you don’t know what that means, don’t worry, because all it basically means is that you don’t need to do anything other than pop the plants in the ground and keep them well watered throughout the growing season. There is loads of advice in the growing guide that comes with the plug plants.

    In the kitchen: Delicious used raw in salads, or for using to dip into hummus. Celery is equally delicious if braised or chopped in casseroles or a fish pie, adding a different texture to your dish. Use the leaves and any older tougher stalks to make stock.

    One of the prettiest lime-green varieties of multi leaf lettuces. It is the shiny-green sister of Lollo Rosso. This variety has extremely frizzy, crinkled and compact leaves. Growing lettuces from plug plants is incredibly easy – just plant up in beds or pots and keep them well watered and protected from slugs.   • Red Cabbage – Red Drumhead

    An easy to grow red cabbage
    This variety will produce a good sized red cabbage that you can feel very proud of having grown yourself! The leaves have a lovely blue tinge, but the hearts themselves are a deep cabbage red. They are great-looking plants in the vegetable garden. Firm them in well when planting and try to keep them cool by watering frequently.   • Savoy Cabbage – Vertus

    Easy to grow, hardy and delicious
    This variety of savoy cabbage has rounded heads of dark green ruffled leaves that have a more subtle flavour compared to other savoy cabbages, slightly less bitter. It’s a very hardy variety and stands well without splitting. Best grown in beds, but it can be grown in large pots too.     In the kitchen: Shred or cut savoy cabbage into wedges with the hard core discarded. Steam, boil, braise or stir-fry. It especially delicious braised with pancetta and garlic.

    Hugely popular when we introduced them in 2020, our wildflower plug plants are brilliant for attracting bees, butterflies and other pollinators. There are over 100 different varieties, all annuals which will readily self seed, giving you continual colour for months. They are great for planting in a dedicated patch in the garden, or in a pot/planter for a mini-meadow on your patio!

    Each plug plant will have a cluster of different seedlings emerging, a lucky dip from the list below, and should not be thinned out. This way, you’ll get a fairly natural looking little meadow. For best results, plant the plugs approximately 15-20cm apart. You can fill a planter or pot quite happily with several plugs to each, allowing for at least 15cm per plug.

    Perfect for a festive harvest
    This traditional variety produces large quantities of medium size, solid sprouts which, if planted in early spring, will crop from October to Christmas. If you plant them later in the year, say June or July, you can expect a crop from December through to February. Sprouts are easy to grow, just remember to earth them up a little to keep them stable on windy days. Harvest them individually from the bottom of the stalk upwards, or pull up a whole stalk.   • French Climbing Bean – Blue Lake

    This variety of bean plant produces stringless, green pods. The beans inside are pure white and can be used as haricot beans at the end of the season. The plants can reach up to 1.5m in height and will need to climb a support. French Beans are easy to grow from plug plants, just plant in beds or large containers in a sunny vegetable plot or garden.     Tagetes have long been a veg patch favourite for encouraging bees and other pollinators, as well as helping to protect your crops from pests like aphids. Dotting a few clusters here and there amongst your crops will really bring your plot to life. They’ll keep flowering right through summer and autumn until the frosts get too heavy.     This variety of parsnip has good disease tolerance and is easy to grow. The parsnips form a smooth skin and are very uniform in shape. Growing from our plug plants is very easy – just pop them in your veg plot when your plants arrive – the parsnip plants come in biodegradable pots so you can just plant them as they come.
