    An eye catching little sprout with a colourful twist

    This variety of brussels sprout puts a fun twist on the traditional winter vegetable. The red sprouts retain their colour when steamed and taste slightly sweeter than the green variety. They cope well in cold weather and deepen their colour after the first frost appears – they’re best harvested after that but can be harvested anytime from November to January.     An easy to grow variety of celery
    This variety of celery forms crisp green stalks. It doesn’t need to be blanched as it grows – it is a ‘self-blanching’ variety. If you don’t know what that means, don’t worry, because all it basically means is that you don’t need to do anything other than pop the plants in the ground and keep them well watered throughout the growing season.     Gives an exceptionally good crop right through the season
    This is a fantastic climbing squash – You can either eat the fruits like courgettes whilst they are still small – they taste quite similar – or leave them to grow and further ripen before storing them in much the same way as winter squash. When used as a winter squash, they have a milder flavour than butternut. You’ll find you get loads from just one plant! As a climber, you’ll need to have space for it to sprawl along the ground (a dedicated raised bed is perfect) or a sturdy trellis/fence for the plants to climb.     Fun, quirky and great in a gin & tonic

    These grape-sized cucumbers have mottled green skin that makes them look like tiny watermelons (hence the name). They are super refreshing and have a slight citrus flavour. They will grow best in the greenhouse but make sure you leave a window or door open for pollinators.     Winter Squash – Cornells Bush Delicata

    A fun alternative to butternut squash
    Produces narrow squash with cream/yellow coloured skin and dark green stripes. It looks great in the vegetable garden! We like it as the flavour is not dissimilar to butternut squash – sweet and nutty – but it is a little quicker to mature and ripen. If you’ve struggled to get butternut to ripen, then give this a go instead. Winter squash are easy to grow – they like lots of compost and plenty of water, sunshine and warmth.     These winter squashes can weigh up to 10kg! The skin turns from green to golden as it matures and the flesh is a rich orange colour with an almost nutmeg-like flavour. We love this variety as an alternative to traditional Jack O-Lantern Pumpkins, as it is easy to carve, and the flesh is a little more enjoyable too. Great for pumpkin pies and soups. Growing winter squash from plug plants is easy – just plant in a bed in a sunny site and keep them well watered. You’ll need a bit of space for them to sprawl, or a sturdy trellis for them to climb.     Easy, quick growing and very prolific
    This old-fashioned round cucumber will produce delightful shaped, yellow coloured fruits. The fruits are crunchy, juicy, mild and sweet with fantastic flavour. You should be able to eat the cucumbers by the end of July. If you keep picking, they’ll go on producing into the autumn, and finish in October (depending on the season, of course!) Cucumbers are best grown in a greenhouse or polytunnel, but you can plant them outside in a sunny, sheltered spot from late May onwards as well.
