This is a good, reliable cabbage that is easy to grow over the autumn and winter months. It has great flavour and is super hardy so will withstand the cold winter well, ready to produce a harvestable head of cabbage greens over winter. The heart is a little looser than spring greens, so you can easily harvest the outer leaves through the season, or wait until late winter and harvest the whole plant.

Sometimes known as Globe Carrots due to their roundness, this variety is a little different from your standard garden carrot. They are a fantastic addition to the kitchen garden in Autumn, a good way of plugging gaps where you may have already harvested, and an excellent way of topping up your Vitamin A when you eat them! They will arrive as plug plants ready for you to plant out straight away, can be grown in the ground or in containers and are not particularly fussy about the climate conditions. This Italian kale has beautiful dark green leaves and looks really striking in the vegetable patch when it’s fully grown. In fact, many people choose to plant it in borders for exactly that reason. It’s easy to grow (easier than many other brassicas) and will provide you with leaves for several months, right into spring. You’ll find it grows slowly over the coldest months, but you should be able to enjoy a crop from late November onwards, depending on the weather. These are such gorgeous leaves for winter growing, with freckle-like red flecks. The leaves can be used as cut-and-come again for salads while the plant is quite young. In the heart of the winter, when it reaches maturity, you are better off harvesting the whole heart and cooking it to eat. You’ll find that the red flecks gradually darken as the plant matures. Plant in September and October approx 25cm apart in raised beds, traditional veg patches or in pots and planters. They are frost tolerant and can be grown outside very happily.
